Onyeka & Obi

Elegant Atlanta Engagement Photoshoot at Chateau Elan

I knew very early on that I wanted to marry this woman. She was EVERYTHING. I spoke to her parents to get their blessings,

How did you meet?

Obi and I are both doctors, and we met at a pharmaceutical dinner lecture. Apparently I had taken the seat our mutual friend saved for him. Obi came up to me and said, “hey, I think we follow each other on instagram.” Since I had never met him prior, and obviously thinking it was just a line, I smiled politely and said “Noo… I don’t think so.” As I was walking away, he said, “We do! Check!” So I asked him for his handle, pulled up my follower list and there he was!!! Till today, we still disagree about who followed who first (we asked instagram, they haven’t responded 😂). Haters (aka Obi) will say I slid in his DMs after that, but in reality, I just sent him a message saying “hi new friend” after we left the dinner. We kept running into each other as we were both members of the local medical society, and always saw each other in different hospitals. We hit it off and became fast friends, nothing romantic. Eventually, the eyes of his heart were enlightened and he expressed interest in me. Even while on vacation to Nigeria, he called, texted, and would stay awake until 4am just to talk to me when I got back from work. He said to me, “Next Christmas (2024), I will bring you to Anambra (his home state in Nigeria)”, to which I responded, “I would love to”. Ironically, we got getting married Dec 30th and I was indeed in Anambra with him as his wife on December 31st. We took some time to pray and fast about what God was saying concerning a relationship with each other. While Obi knew and had seen right away, I still needed some serious convincing. I kept running away and avoiding him until I heard for myself clear as day. I gave him a chance to take me on our first date, and it was so unbelievably amazing. I couldn’t imagine being with anyone else.

Tell us your proposal story:

I knew very early on that I wanted to marry this woman. She was EVERYTHING. I spoke to her parents to get their blessings, got the ring, now the only thing left was to find the right time. Babe girl and I had very hectic schedules and our days off often didn’t overlap. There was one weekend we would both have a day off together, but she decided to sign up for a medical skills course in Seattle that fell on that exact weekend. I knew I didn’t want to propose in Detroit where we worked (no offense to Detroiters), and I didn’t like the idea of waiting another few months for the perfect time. Since we had both never been to Seattle, it would be the perfect way to make it memorable. I quickly started making plans and enlisted the help of a planner. Initially, the plan was to propose overlooking the Space Needle, but the fear of inclement weather quickly caused us to pivot. The planner and I ended up deciding to set up the proposal in our hotel room. I told babe girl (3 days before) that I would be flying out to Seattle for a day to hang out with her after the course, and would leave the next morning. She tried discouraging me, saying it was too expensive to fly out and spend less than 24hrs, but I insisted. I booked an amazing dinner at a restaurant with a stunning view of the city, and took this beautiful woman out on a date night, just as I had promised. We had an amazing time, and I spent the entire dinner professing my love to her. We headed back to the hotel, where her surprise awaited her. She walked into the room to see it beautifully decorated with candles and rose petals. A photographer was there capturing her every reaction, and the planner was recording it all on video. I got down on one knee and proposed to the love of my life. Best decision I have ever made!!
